Okay, folks, so we are back! Or more precisely, I am back to hell.

It’s already been a week, so fast. It’s a Sunday and I couldn’t even go to church for last greetings. Dad woke us up at 4:00 am. 4:00 AM! Dude, come on! I’m not going to the USA or anything. I’m going to Santasi, Kumasi, which is just a three-hour drive, at most 3 hours, 45 minutes.

And I don’t wanna go! Can’t you read the room?

But well, Dad is Dad. That’s the harsh truth. This isn’t some white movie where children can talk back at their parents and go scott free. Try that with a black or, specifically, a well-groomed African parent. That is a one-way ticket to oblivion, and I’m not gonna do that!

I’m still a virgin, and I have to make Mama proud!

So yeah, that’s the whole reason why… I fucking woke up looking like I had a grudge with my guardian angel! My guardian, wherever you are, please forgive me. I was too engrossed in the pain of waking up to go to school.

This school better be worth it, or they risk extinction. Kidding! I can’t do shit!

So here we were, back to this school in a long white-sleeved collar-shirt, brown trousers, and my favorite back shoes. And the weather was unusually chilly! Like hell, man!

So, I had to wear my oversized sweater, but the chill was destroying my egg-shaped head! Nigga leave me alone!

The sad part was, we reached school fairly early, way earlier than the assigned time for the final registration. This is your fault, old man!

They were having Mass currently, so only the prefects and some teachers on campus came to receive us. All they did was set up a canopy for us and go back. Yo! Where’s the food?! I’m starving here!

They ignored me like I was air. They couldn’t see my greatness. So sad.

Oh, I almost forgot about this guy sitting beside me on his chopbox. His name is Douglas and he’s the lazy guy who couldn’t come for admission with his Dad. And he turns out to be older than I by a year.

I’ve heard of how intelligent he was, but dude, this guy is just as hungry as I am. There’s no intelligence in being hungry. In fact, he was ranting about it. He lacked the art of Patience. Pathetic!

But dude, I’m dying here! When will you guys finish Mass? I have to finish this shit and go find something to eat. I wonder how the evening food would taste. Hope it’s as good as I’ve heard.

Anyway, they finished Mass two hours later…

Like hell! I don’t blame them, though. We came too early.

The school authorities, thus the priests, headmasters, housemasters, prefects, and other staff, came to meet us officially, and the registration kicked off. Because we came early, we finished early.

Douglas, unfortunately, had a different house than mine, Bishop Paulissen House. And to everything damned, this dormitory block was the closest dormitory block to us. It was recognized as the Main Dormitory block, and it was literally where we had the registration. So you could imagine, this dude had it easy.

Meanwhile, I could be seen carrying my insanely book-filled heavy chopbox with my huge backpack on my back and a sophomore helping with my suitcase, walking towards my dormitory block. Fortunately, he was someone I knew; otherwise, I woulda cried that day. I nearly cried, though, but I’m strong. You could tell by all them skinny muscles and things.

Anyways, Bishop Sarpong House was the farthest dormitory on campus. You had to cross the chapel, the dining hall (I can smell something nice…), the Fathers’ Residence, the Teachers’ Residence, Bishop Essuah House (Seminarian Dormitory) before you got to this damn house!

For fuck’s sake, I would be travelling in school to go wherever I want to go!

But you see, destiny is a beautiful thing. And when you are awesome, destiny finds you.

I met one of my childhood friends, Ivan. He was in his third year, so he had that third-year authority and power. And the good part, he was the House Prefect. And the goodest part, I was assigned to his room too. Sarpong House Room 3. So beautiful…

My life here was becoming brighter and brighter. After settling down (went back for my mattress and other stuff), I went back to bid Mother the final farewell. I will see her in I-don’t-know-when time.

Until then, bye, Ma! Sob! Sob!

I almost cried. I’m sure I would cry tonight, probably. Now time to explore!

A  few moments later…

Fuck you, King! You fucking betrayer!

You may wonder why I’m mad… It’s nothing too much but still…

Just a moment… FUCK YOU, KING!

Now let’s go to the reason.

So, I’m seated right now behind the keyboard (organ. The keyboard is a collective instrument of all playable instruments.) For what reason?

Because King told the Music Prefects that I can play the keyboard. Dude, I wanted to stay low-key! That has always been my way, and now this dude wants me to play something.

What the hell am I supposed to play? Elder Mireku or Patapaa? It’s not like I couldn’t play anything, oo (Ghanaian English that…), I learnt staff music and it required a script to play something. All I had around was my Music Lesson Book, Pianoforte Small Woods. That’s all! And you want me to play something!!!

But then something weird happened. This was already the third strangeness since I came to this school last week, and today.

First was the strange chilliness and isolation I felt on the admission day. The second was Mr. Marfo, Father Paul, who happened to be the Vice Rector, and now the Music Prefects. Their eyes glowed with a pale blue color, and I felt myself compelled to create something: Sound.

It might sound crazy, but music is a broad topic. Sound is part of music, and it is the part of music that is understandable and easy to discern. It was like they created a bond with me and pushed the music into my head.

In no time, everyone was nodding their heads to the tune I was playing. It was a classical tune. Guess…

Yes! Fur Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven. Classical Masterpiece and fairly easy to play in key of C.

Kidding! This was a piece I spent close to two weeks playing it and I couldn’t even finish it. It was as hard as hard could be!

But then, this strange thing happened, and I was playing it like I composed it. What was happening?

…

Music Prefects POV…

‘Interesting. Father Paul mentioned someone like that. I’m sure it’s him,’ M.P. 1 said to M.P. 2 in his mind through sound. Strange. M.P. 1 was a tall, fair-skinned guy in a baggy uniform.

‘It is definitely him. His fingering and everything are impulsive. All he needs is a bit of polishing, and I’m sure he would reach that level,’ M.P. 2 responded with a smile. He was short and dark-skinned and looked kinda cute but with bad boy vibes. He was Obed, the Assistant Music Prefect, while M.P. 1 was Samuel, the Main Music Prefect.

And they were all strange!

‘There are others too. Let’s see how it all turns out,’ Samuel said.

‘Sure!’

…

Yeah, and I was still playing without noticing the small, dark blue line that had appeared on my right eyelid.

Hello Folks, leave a comment! It’s my first time trying a 1st Person POV. Help me with the progress by leaving a comment!

Thank you!

I think there’s a typo, the part where he was talking about Ivan, I think you meant best part, but you said goodest part

I like how the story is unfolding. Imagine if there were factions in the school. Each with a range of powers specific to the faction.

Or even better, everyone has some innate ability that’s allow them compatible with a faction. The factions always want the ones with the best potential.
