Have you heard of this Kuami Eugene song, Angela?

Yeah. Some stupid asshole broke the serene, boring silence with it. Well he had a call and that was his ringtone. Damn, I hate that song! No offense there but we all have our preferences and I as one, hate these simpy covered romantic songs. They were so lame to be honest. Now enough with the hate vibes. I’m a cool kid.

Yeah, so the guy, Michael, as I later found out, left with that damn song! Praise the Lord.

“Are you stupid? Kids these days are very disrespectful. So, you think you are so high up that your mother, as old as she is, has to walk up and down to get you admission, and you sit here and give her orders!” I heard a deeply angry and disdainful voice say.

It resounded in the vicinity that everyone quietened and turned to the source, only to find a tall boy standing with his head down in shame in front of the Headmaster Domestic. His mother sat on the chair opposite the headmaster, her face showing signs of exhaustion and sorrow. She was really suffering from what I could see.

This fucking idiot really did this to his own mother! Such wickedness! I know for sure he won’t ever be my friend. I’d rather eat corn and get sick!

“Mr. Marfo, he’s started fooling, eh?” The priest who was also seated a distance away on the huge stage said. He was tall and, should I say, buff? Fat? Well, he had meat and skin, so yeah. He wore a pair of square spectacles, and his voice was kind of weird. It wasn’t deep or anything commanding, but it was loud and chilling.

The moment he spoke, the wholeplace  quietened down further while a heavy presence engulfed the hall. This place was actually the Assembly Hall of the school. All the school authorities, ranging from priests to headmasters to even the prefects, present, turned towards the boy.

What is this? This presence… this aura. I don’t swear, but I can try and swear that I saw a massive being breathing down the neck of that guy.

Well, he was royally fucked up now! He’d already caught the attention of the big dogs. I can bet school life will be a literal hell for him. Time to go back to my game. This one no concern me.

The massive twist caused waves through the crowd and in no time, the kids around were showing the greatest kind of respect they could muster to their parents. Obviously, I wasn’t part of them.

I love my mother very much and I will never disrespect her. It is one of my greatest principles. Don’t disrespect mother no matter what. Disrespect her and lose something in return. That was just by the way.

Well, it was my turn to face Mr. Marfo, as he was called by the fat, meaty priest earlier. *Cough* No offense, Father. Please excuse my analysis.

As we walked up the three stairs onto the stage, he turned his gaze towards us, or specifically, me. I could feel that sharp, piercing gaze through my almost hairless head. So imposing!

Well, I haven’t told you this but I’m a very cold guy. I’m a whole package of awesomeness! Feel free to bow down!

I am very hot-tempered, but due to an incident sometime ago, well, Grandma whooped my ass, and I cried the whole day. That whooping was so painful!!!

Imagine a Fante woman with them thick arms, not muscular but you know what I mean. Imagine this woman holding a cane as long as my eight-year-old self, hitting my small ass with this cane, countless times.

She was literally caning my soul! Where are the benefits of being the first grandson here?! This is a betrayal of the highest order! Well I can’t say that aloud. I’m a hypocrite too, surprise!

I can’t risk getting whooped like that again. I’m a delicate child… wait, that sounded weird.

Anyway, I wasn’t intimidated even a tiny bit by Mr. Marfo. I was chill.

Kidding! Bruh, I’ve done no wrong… yet!

“Welcome,” Mr. Marfo said, beckoning my mother to sit. As the good kid I am, I pulled the chair for her to sit, then I adjusted my now useless backpack and stood straight beside her, my expression indifferent.

“Good afternoon, Sir,” Mother greeted first, making Mr. Marfo raise his eyebrows in surprise. He was clearly impressed, for sure. That is my mother for you! I’m proud of you, Mama.

“Good afternoon, ma’am. Hope you are well?” Mr. Marfo said, his voice changing to a calm, amicable one. That is the charm and charisma Mother holds. Fall down and worship her!

“Very well. Hope you are also fine?”

“I am just a bit exhausted. It’s not easy,”

“Haha! I’m aware. I’m a teacher myself, so I can relate.”

Yeah, they were already vibing. Come on! This is about me, not your job!

“Please let’s move on to the main show then. What is the name of your son?” Mr. Marfo quickly changed the subject. I’m liking this man already, like like, not the other like. I don’t swing that way.

Funny enough, I am a virgin. *Cough!*

“Kelvin Afriyie…”

“Age?”

“16”

“Course?”

“General Science”

“Religious Denomination?”

“Christian”

“Church?”

“Catholic”

He asked some semi-personal questions, then he suddenly smiled and turned to me.

“Do you join any society in church, Kelvin?”

“I am a Mass Server and I’m also a cadet of Knights of St. John International,” I answered.

“Wow! I’m surprised! Welcome to school, then, your house is Bishop Sarpong House.” Mr. Marfo said with a smile as he gave my mother a filled form sheet and a sheet for the prospectus.

“You can now go to any of the Priests for the final process,” He said. Mother thanked him, and then we moved towards the Priests.

They were all busy with others except for one, and he was the “fat” priest with the heavy aura.

“Good afternoon, Father.” Mother greeted.

“Good afternoon, madam. Please sit,” The priest said with a smile. Damn, he’s huge and not fat… weird. Was I hallucinating like earlier?

“Please, are you Catholics?” He asked.

“Yes, please.” Mother answered.

“Very good! I am Father Paul. Let’s proceed.”

He went onto tell a bit about the school been a Seminary and how all Catholics were automatically Seminarians. Bishop Sarpong House was for all Catholics while Bishop Essuah House was for certified Seminarians, those who had written the exams for Seminarians.

He was strangely cool and chill, and in no time, we were done.

“Do you have any talent? Play any instrument or something?” He asked me, his eyes glowing with a slight golden-white light.

What the hell?

“Yes, please. I play the keyboard.” I said.

He looked at me silently, as if expecting me to say more, which of course I had, but hell no. I won’t tell you all.

“Great! Great indeed! We will see you in a week. Have a great day.” He said with a slight laugh as we got up to leave.

We were finally done with this shit. Mother also got a new friend who’s son apparently couldn’t come because of certain issues. He had also finished his and we would be going home together. He was also in Sunyani.

I adjusted my backpack, waved at Nana Korang and Seth, who had come later, and left the hall. We met King and Stanislaus on the way and exchanged pleasantries.

We had finished with the admissions. Now, it was left with the final preparations and I would come back to school on Sunday in the following week.

Help me, God!

…

Father Paul POV….

“Interesting kid. He’s the second one now. This year’s group seems promising,” He muttered to himself.

I was very surprised by what I saw. My eyes revealed to me the dense aura of this kid. Sharp, vibrational… and his mother’s name.

Obosu. So he was from that family. A family well-known in the Catholic Church. Magnificent indeed!

…

Without knowing what was in store for me, I followed my mother and Mr. Addo, her new friend, to the main junction and took a van. We were going home.

I was hungry, and it was already 3:30 pm!
